Religulous
I see it’s been five months since the last blog post. I’m going to try to be better about updating.
Last Tuesday many of us from CVA went to see a preview of Religulous, the new movie by Bill Maher. In it he interviews members of various religions, basically asking the obvious questions which most of us are too polite to ask. (Such as “if you think you’re going to a better place when you die, why don’t you kill yourself?”)
A lot of the interviews were interspersed with subtitles and video snippets which were, IMHO, overly snarky. The interviews themselves, though, were well done. He can’t resist going for the (sometimes cheap) joke, but the core of the interviews, and of the movie, was Maher repeatedly pointing out what’s ridiculous in the interviewee’s religion, and giving the interviewee a chance to explain why it wasn’t really ridiculous. A chance which, however, the interviewee was never able to convert into a non-ridiculous explanation.
